“There’s a lot of destruction,” Iredell County Fire and Emergency Management Director Kent Greene told The Tennessean. “Nothing remains of this structure except a partial wall.” Caleb was spotted at the scene talking to authorities after the explosion Tuesday morning.
Local news source Queen City News was told by neighbors that they heard an explosion and smelled gas.
“Loud sound, about five minutes to midnight,” said neighbor Clay Wild. “I can not believe it.”
“I know he also lost his mother at a young age,” his teammate Kevin Byard said. “He faced a lot of adversity. It is very tragic. It is an unimaginable tragedy.”
Son Caleb, who starred in Maiden and now plays in the NFL, says he knew his father had an excellent reputation.

“My brother would always tell me, like a bruh, that guy that’s out there that’s homeless or whatever, you give him the same respect as a rich man because he has the same value in this world as a rich man,” Elijah added. “My brother… when he saw someone in need, he would reach into his pocket and give them, say, something to eat, and he would never owe them anything in return. He didn’t do it for the show, he did it because it was honest, that’s how mom and dad raised us.”

Robert Farley was on the state championship winning Maiden High School football team. “You would argue that Robert was faster than Caleb,” head coach Will Byrne said. “To this day, it is debated who was the fastest.” However, according to Elijah, he decided to quit football and go into the barber business to help him.
Elijah had a large clientele due to his talent for cutting hair. He claimed that when Robert saw him straining to keep up while staying up late every night, he came to the conclusion that something had to give.
“My brother, tired of watching me struggle and what not, stopped his career that he was making good money doing what he was doing, put it aside and went to barber school just so he could help out. “
Robert Farley ran a barbershop in Newton. He often helped customers who came to his barber shop hungry, according to his brother, but did so in a way that the customers would not realize it was coming from him.
“If we’re ever blessed in life, give back, it’s better to give than to receive, that’s just the mentality my brother had for the community,” Elijah said. “That’s why he was so loved because he would give the shirt off his back.”
