Mason Mount’s former club relegated after being slapped with 18-POINT deduction and fined for major rule breach

VITESSE were relegated from the Eredivisie after being deducted 18 POINTS.

The club, which has spent the last 35 years in the Dutch first division, has been accused of providing incorrect information needed by investigators about potential sanctions violations.

Allegedly, they also withheld data important for the assessment of the club’s continued existence.

And they have repeatedly failed to meet the requirements of licensing regulations.

The restructuring plan has been submitted to the Dutch Football Association, but it has yet to be accepted.

The 18 point penalty means they are bottom of the Eredivisie with -1 point with just four games remaining.

Before the penalty, it already looked like they would be relegated as they were seven points short of avoiding the automatic relegation places.

But their fate is now sealed, with interim managing director Edwin Reijntjes admitting punishment is “inevitable”.

In a club statement, he said: “Although this is a dark day for anyone and everyone who cares about Vitesse, this is a harsh reality. After all, such a punishment was inevitable.

“On the other hand – and I really want to make this clear to everyone – we are extremely happy about the opportunity offered to us to keep our license. And that was hanging by a thread.

“However, in the Licensing Commission’s response, it is clear that there is confidence in the club’s new direction.

“We stick to that and will continue to do so.

Mason Mount reveals his favorite Man Utd song and nobody is surprised

Vitesse have confirmed that they will not appeal against the penalty handed down by the Licensing Commission.

The relegation comes just six years after Chelsea and England star Mason Mount enjoyed a successful loan spell at the club.

Mount, 25, scored 14 goals and provided ten assists in 39 games, helping them to sixth place in the Eredivise as they earned a place in the Europa League qualifying rounds.

They also reached the last 16 of the 2022 Europa Conference League before losing 2-1 on aggregate to eventual winners Roma.

Their route to the knockout stages included a 1-0 win over Tottenham in the group stage.
