Video: UPS worker throws package onto porch (but not before flipping the bird)

Image used with permission of the copyright holder. When a video appeared on YouTube last week showing a FedEx delivery man throwing a box containing a computer monitor over a garden fence, anyone who uses the company’s service would have been rightly horrified. They may even have considered switching their custom to rival UPS.

Well, if that’s the case, it’s time to go back to the drawing board, because a new video has surfaced showing a UPS employee not only tossing a box onto a porch, but also giving the middle finger to the camera filming it. Talk about supremacy.

The UPS driver removes the camera as he drops the package

The incident took place at a Long Island address on December 15, although the video has only now become public. At first, everything seems normal as a worker gets out of his van and walks up the driveway carrying a rather large Zappos package. However, things take a sinister turn when the guy gives the security camera the middle finger, before casually tossing the box onto the front porch of the house.

According to reports, UPS spokeswoman Ronna Branch said employees were told in pre-shift meetings to be aware of security cameras attached to properties. The UPS worker in question certainly cannot be accused of disobeying an order – he knew exactly where was the camera when he flipped the bird.

Another spokeswoman for the delivery company, Natalie Godwin, told NBC New York that the worker in question was a seasonal employee. “We do not tolerate such behavior and yes, he was fired,” she said.

With about $32 billion worth of goods purchased online in the US this holiday season, many consumers will shudder to think what might happen to their purchases between the warehouse and the front door.

But we should also be wary of the majority of responsible delivery people who must be angry because their reputations have been tarnished. Affirmative action may be needed – we may soon see tons of videos posted on YouTube showing UPS and FedEx employees happily waving and smiling cheerfully at security cameras before diligently depositing a fragile and expensive package onto the appropriate surface with all the care a mother places her a newborn in a cradle? No, probably not.
