UmaSofia Srivastava, Indian-origin Miss Teen USA, resigns from post following Miss USA

UmaSofia Srivastava, who was crowned Miss Teen USA 2023, announced her resignation from the post on May 8. She said she had been “struggling with this decision” for several months. Her decision to step down follows Noelia Voigt’s resignation as Miss USA.

After months of deliberation, UmaSofia Srivastava has resigned as Miss Teen USA.

Srivastava announced her resignation in an Instagram post, saying she “certainly didn’t see her reign coming to an end this way.”

“After careful consideration, I have decided to resign as I have determined that my personal values ​​are no longer fully aligned with the direction of the organization,” Srivastava said.

She added: “However, I will continue my relentless advocacy for education and acceptance with my multi-lingual children’s book The White Jaguar and with organizations I have had the privilege of working with well before I started competing, namely The Lotus Petal Foundation and Bridge of Books Foundation .”

Srivastava said she will focus on her academics in the future. “I’m looking forward to the rest of the year as I finish 11th grade as part of the National Honor Society and begin the college application process, knowing that my academic career is defined by my hard work and my hard work alone.”

She also expressed her gratitude to those who support her. “Most importantly, thank you to those who support me for who I am and have always been, not what I have become.”

In response to her decision, Miss Teen USA, in a post on Instagram, thanked her for her service and wished her the best in the future. The organization added: “We respect and support UmaSofia’s decision to step down from her duties. The welfare of our title holders is a top priority. We are currently considering plans to transfer responsibility to a successor, and will soon announce the crowning of the new Miss Teen USA.”

Noelia Voigt, who was crowned Miss USA in September, resigned on May 6 to prioritize her mental well-being. She said it was “the start of a new chapter” and she hoped it would inspire others to “stand firm and prioritize mental health”. She also mentioned Srivastava, saying that she is grateful to her, among others.
