Teacher ‘laughed & told pupil, 15, to “shut up” when he mentioned age before they had sex twice after shopping trip’

A TEACHER laughed and told a 15-year-old pupil to “shut up” when he mentioned his age before they had sex twice, a court was told today.

Rebecca Joynes, 30, is accused of having sex with two students – including one who got her pregnant while she was on probation.

Mathematics professor denies six allegations of sexual activity with a child.

Manchester Crown Court heard how Joynes “groomed” boy A, then 15, by taking him shopping in Selfridges.

She then allegedly bought him a belt worth £345 before driving him home in her white Audi where they had sex twice.

In his statement today, the boy said the teacher was famous at his school because she was “good looking”.

The pair started talking when Joynes gave him the first ten digits of her number and asked him to guess the last one, it was said.

He told jurors he texted her “hi” and when she didn’t respond, he told her in class, “So you’re just ignoring me then?”

The pair initially began texting in a “normal” way, but Joynes then allegedly asked if she wanted to meet up.

He said: “I remember saying, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me?’

“And she said, ‘No, I didn’t’.”

The boy told the court he “didn’t expect” to have sex with his teacher when they went shopping in the Trafford Centre.

But he added: “But it is [happen] and I feel like when we arranged to meet anyone in my position and my age she would because she was hot.”

He also told jurors she mentioned she was driving, prompting him to respond that he wouldn’t know because he wasn’t “old enough.”

Joynes allegedly told him to “shut up” and started laughing, the teenager added.

After they had sex, she begged the boy not to say anything, but he sent friends a photo of the teacher lying there as evidence, it was said.

A police investigation was launched in October 2021, and she was subsequently arrested and released on the condition that she not contact any children under the age of 18.

During the police interview, the boy was asked by the officer what he hoped would happen when he met his teacher.

He replied, “I don’t know. But anyone in my position, when you’re my age, my age. If you ever see her – she looks good.”

While on bail, Joynes began a relationship with Boy B when he was 15.

This then turned into a sexual relationship when he turned 16, and the couple allegedly had sex around 30 times.

Joynes then became pregnant and gave birth to his child despite telling him she was infertile, jurors were told.

She reportedly announced the news by giving him a growth that read, “I love my dad.”

He was said to have cried and told Joynes he did not want a child.

Prosecutor Joe Allman said: “Astonishingly and, frankly, quite brazenly, all this was happening while Ms Joynes was being released from prison to this court.

“Of course she cannot deny that sexual relationship because she became pregnant with a child (boy B) and gave birth to a child (boy B).

“Instead, this time she claims the sexual activity didn’t start until he was over 16, and she was finally kicked out of school.”

Joynes denies two counts of sexual activity with Boy A, two counts of sexual activity with Boy B and two counts of sexual activity with Boy B while in a position of trust.

The trial continues.
