‘Sichuan’s most badass cat’ accidentally sets house on fire in China, causes ₹11 lakh damage

When an apartment caught fire in the Chinese province of Sichuan, firefighters rushed to put out the flames. However, amid the chaos, the blame fell on an unlikely culprit: a cat named Jingoudiao.

Jingoudiao accidentally turned on the induction cooker in the pet parent’s kitchen. Then there was a fire all over the house. It caused damage to the apartment worth 11 lakh rupees, the South China Morning Post reported.

The property management staff saw flames coming out of the apartment and informed the owner, Dadan, who was playing mahjong outside.

As she hurried back to her apartment, she discovered that everything was burnt.

Firefighters, who were called to extinguish the fire, found the cat hiding in an upstairs cupboard. Fortunately, Jingoudiao was unharmed, but he was covered in ash.

After this incident, Dadan asked the fireman via video chat to teach her cat some fire safety tips. The fireman was surprised because it was the first time someone had asked him to teach a cat. He joked that he had previously tried to get the fire dog interested in safety issues, but it didn’t work.

After the April 4 fire incident, Dadan changed the cat’s account name on Chinese video app Douyin to “Sichuan’s Naughtiest Cat.” She also published a public apology, signed with her cat’s fingerprint and paw print.

Dadan took the blame for the incident and admitted that she should have been more careful and turned off the electricity on the stove. She also promised to pay more attention to fire safety and urged others to do the same.

The editors also shared how social media users reacted to the incident. User commented: “Thank you. I just turned off the electric stove. I have a mean cat that goes everywhere in my apartment.”

Another user sympathized with the cat’s feelings, adding: “I just wanted to cook my mom dinner.”

“My cat just flushes the toilet, leaving me with huge water bills,” joked a third person.
