Police launch Russell Brand sex assault investigation as new woman comes forward to report attack by comedian in 2003

A NEW woman has come forward to police claiming she was sexually assaulted by Russell Brand.

The Metropolitan Police revealed today that a woman called them on Sunday saying she had been sexually assaulted by an entertainer in London’s Soho in 2003.

The alleged offense came three years before a flurry of rape and sexual assault allegations against Brando were revealed by The Sunday Times and C4’s Dispatches program at the weekend.

Four women were accused of sexual abuse between 2006 and 2013.

Brand (48) denies all accusations.

Police are now ready to investigate the latest allegation which has come directly to them – and have urged other potential victims to come forward.

A Met spokesman said: “We are aware of reports by The Sunday Times and Channel 4 Dispatches about allegations of sexual misconduct.

“On Sunday 17 September, the Met received a report of a sexual assault which allegedly took place in Soho, central London in 2003.

“Police officers are in contact with the woman and will provide her with support.”

The Met said they first spoke to The Sunday Times on Saturday and had “since made further approaches” to the newspaper and Channel 4 “to ensure that anyone who believes they have been the victim of a sexual offense is aware of how to report it to the police.”

The spokesman added: “We continue to encourage anyone who believes they may have been the victim of a sexual offence, regardless of how long ago it was, to contact us.”

The new development could potentially open the door to further similar lawsuits against Brando, as previously seen when celebrities were kicked out when the #MeToo movement erupted in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein case.

It comes after Channel 4 reportedly asked third-party production houses to report “historical allegations” about Brando, Deadline reports.

In an email seen by the website, director of content Ian Katz said Channel 4 was urging producers to “bring to our attention any historical allegations or concerns” about the comedian.

Anyone wishing to report an offense to the police should call The Met on 101.

Always call 999 in an emergency.
