New leaks offer the best look at Google’s Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a (5G) phones

Earlier this week, alongside the launch of the Pixel 4a, Google teased a pair of upcoming phones: the Pixel 4a (5G) and the Pixel 5, which it plans to launch later this fall. Now, a series of leaks have revealed almost every detail you need to know about these devices.

Reporting by Steve Hemmestoffer (@OnLeaks), which has reliable results, offers the best look (in collaboration with Indian outlets, 91Mobiles and Pricebaba) on the Pixel 4a (5G) and Pixel 5 through a bunch of high-resolution renders. Both phones share a similar, minimalist design that can also be found on the recently announced Pixel 4a. There’s an almost edge-to-edge display on the front with a small cutout for the selfie camera and a square camera housing on the back.

Interestingly, Google is set to bring back the physical rear fingerprint reader, which is in line with earlier rumors that suggested the company would abandon its facial recognition radar technology. While there isn’t much that makes the Pixel 4a (5G) and Pixel 5 visibly different, they won’t feel the same. The Pixel 4a (5G) will reportedly have a plastic body to keep costs down, and the Pixel 5 will likely opt for an aluminum exterior coated with a polycarbonate material — identical to last year’s Pixel 4.

According to another report from Android Central, the Pixel 5 will feature a 6-inch OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate. It will run on Qualcomm’s latest 5G-enabled Snapdragon 765G processor and 8GB of RAM. Google is also expected to bundle an IP68 water and dust resistance rating and 5W reverse wireless charging that will allow you to charge other compatible devices by simply placing them on the back of the Pixel 5. Furthermore, it will have a standard backup camera using a secondary ultra-wide lens.

While Android Central doesn’t share any battery specs, another leak showing the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a (5G) in the wild claims they’ll have a 4,000mAh pack.

On the other hand, the Pixel 4a (5G) will likely share the same hardware as the Pixel 4a except for a larger 6.2-inch screen and of course support for 5G networks. Google has already confirmed that it will cost $499, $150 more than the smaller Pixel 4a.
