Josephine Melville, who played Tessa Parker in the BBC’s EastEnders, has died backstage after starring in a play at the Nottingham Playhouse. Melville played Maggie in Natasha Gordon’s play Nine Nights. Nottingham Playhouse announced the news on October 21, saying:
“We regret to announce that actress Josephine Melville passed away last night backstage at the Nottingham Playhouse during a performance of her play Nine Night.” Josephine’s family has been informed and our hearts and prayers are always with them.”

The theater said in a statement that Melville passed away on Thursday, October 20, and that emergency services treated the now deceased actress. One of the spectators was a medical professional who also ran to help. Melville was pronounced dead when paramedics arrived on the scene. The cause of Josephine’s death has not been revealed and the remaining Nine Night concerts have been cancelled.
