However, just a few minutes after the show ended, those watching the show at home noticed the reporter and presenter shakily appear on the screen.

During the programme, Rageh also struggled to ‘get the words out’ which caused concern among viewers.

When contacted by The Sun, a spokesperson for the broadcaster confirmed that he was receiving treatment.

They said: “We are aware that viewers are concerned for the welfare of Rageh Omaar.

“Rageh fell ill while presenting News at Ten on Friday and is now under medical care.

“He thanks everyone for their good wishes.”

Following the scenes, ITV bosses pulled the 10 News repeat from its +1 channel.

The message on the screen read: “We will be back soon. We are temporarily unable to offer you our +1 service.

“We will continue shortly.”

Taking to social media, one viewer expressed concern for Rageh, with one writing: “What happened to him, is he ok and why didn’t they turn him off?”

Another wrote: “Hopefully Rageh Omaar got the care he clearly needs after tonight’s ITV news. Not entirely sure of the context and why he had to go on air but I’m sure there will be an explanation in time.”

“Really disturbing viewing. Struggling with speech and slurring words,” said a third.

While a fourth commented: “I thought he was just having trouble with his autoki, but I hope he’s feeling better.”

Before joining ITV, Rageh first worked for the BBC as a world affairs correspondent.

In 2013 he became a special correspondent for ITN and later became a substitute presenter for ITV News bulletins.

Rageh was born in Mogadishu and moved to the UK when he was just two years old.

During his education he studied at the Dragon School in Oxford and Cheltenham College in Gloucestershire.
