In the wholesale sourcing and shipping industry, “box cube” is a measure of how much box space any item in your warehouse will take up. A housing cube can be measured in cubic feet or cubic meters. If you know the dimensions of the trunk, you can easily find the trunk cube to plan how to organize your storage.

Measure the length, width, and height of a unit in inches or meters.[1]

    • Regardless of the unit of measure you use, measure all dimensions with the same unit of measure.
    • You can also measure the unit in centimeters, but converting cubic centimeters to cubic meters (the final measurement) can be very cumbersome.[2]
Instead, divide the centimeter measurements by 100 to convert to meters before continuing.[3]
    • The word “unit” refers to any quantity of an item in which it is sold/packaged. So a bottle, box or bag would be a unit. But if the item in question is sold as a pack of 3 bottles, you would have to measure all 3 bottles, since they are packaged together, to get the dimensions to calculate the cube of the box.

Multiply the length, width, and height of the unit.[4]

Divide the result by 1728 if your measurements were in inches. The resulting number is the cube of the box in cubic feet.[5]
If your measurements were in meters, division is not necessary; your result is a cubic box in cubic meters.[6]
