They were headed for Palm Beach, Florida and crashed in Percy Priest Lake near Smyrna, Tennessee.

They were found guilty three years after Josef’s death; his autopsy confirmed that he died of blunt force trauma to the head associated with acute and chronic abuse.
Josef’s parents mentioned that it was an accident, but they hid it from the department for a long time, and now they are sentenced to 30 years.
Since Josef died, the church has been in the spotlight after learning that his parents were members of the church.
After Josef’s death, the investigation was conducted by law enforcement agencies in Georgia and Tennessee.
After an investigation, it was announced that the Smiths were the only ones involved in child abuse; no member of the church has been charged in this case.
NBC news reported that no leads were found against the church after the case involving the eight-year-old boy.
A website used by a church member declares the Smiths innocent and blames former church members for false child abuse claims against the couple.
