And while he teamed up with producer Dua Lipa for the track, it seems his efforts may not be enough to take over the top spot.

According to comparison site Oddschecker, Croatia’s Baby Lasagna will be crowned champion on Saturday night at odds of 7/5.

Their song is called Rim Tim Tagi Dim, which has become a rave among fans online.

Switzerland’s Nemo (103/25), Italy’s Angelina Mango (803/100) and Ukraine’s Aloyna Aloyna & Jerry Heil (49/5) also top the prediction table.

The United Kingdom (156) reached eleventh place – an improvement on last year’s 25th place with Mae Muller’s I Wrote A Song.

Years and Years frontman Olly, UK’s most prominent Eurovision act in over a decade.

It has already secured a place in the finals at the Malmo Arena as one of the ‘big five countries’ of the show.

But some Eurovision fans rebelled after seeing a snippet of his performance on the BBC’s Eurovision social media page.

Some have compared him to pop star Sam Smith, known for his shocking performances.

The first look saw Olly wearing a plastic brace over red combat pants.

He was followed by half-naked dancers in boxer shorts and suspenders, who pushed and stuck out their tongues.

One person commented: “Terrible. Family friendly? Looks like a porn movie…”

“As a gay guy, this is too sexual, this is something for OnlyFans, not Eurovision,” wrote another under the post.

A third annoyed viewer commented: “If this is the definition of gay then I must be straight. Go Britain to win though!”

Another said: “I love the song. I hate the unnecessary sexual meandering all over the stage, very Sam Smith vibes, which is why I walked away from him too.”

The event will be broadcast live on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Saturday night.

Scott Mills and Rylan Clark will once again commentate all the Eurovision action for the BBC.

Graham Norton will then take over duties for the grand final on Saturday.
