David Moyes lands new job just days after West Ham announced manager set to leave at end of season

DAVID MOYES has been confirmed as part of the talkSPORT squad for this summer’s Euros, just days after it was revealed he had left West Ham.

The Scot (61) will leave the Hammers at the end of the season after an extremely successful four and a half years at the London Stadium.

But he intends to waste some time getting back to work as he prepares for a radio appearance.

Moyes will add to the Scottish contingent on talkSPORT alongside Ally McCoist and Graeme Souness.

And he’s excited to start on the platform after the domestic campaign ends.

Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: “With a distinct lack of Scottish football voices on talkSPORT for the Euros – just five so far with Ally, Alan, Shebahn, Jim and Graeme combined – I’m delighted to be another Scot flying the flag for our home team on the best sports network.

“The more the merrier, huh?”

Moy’s broadcasting experience includes commentary for BBC Radio 5 live during the 2010 World Cup.

He has also previously appeared on talkSPORT, as well as Sky Sports, the BBC, STV and Premier Sports.

Scotland will kick off the Euros when they play hosts Germany on June 14.

West Ham confirmed on Monday that Moyes will leave at the end of the season.

He is expected to be replaced by former Real Madrid, Sevilla and Wolves coach Julen Lopetegui – who has agreed terms with the club.

A statement from co-chairman David Sullivan said: “On behalf of everyone at West Ham United, I would like to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to David for the contribution he has made to the football club during his time as manager.

“David has been responsible for a period of great progress and success in our history, and we are extremely grateful for all his hard work, dedication and commitment to the role.

“David has been an absolute professional to work with and will leave with our highest respect and best wishes – he deserves our highest regards for the service he has given West Ham United and we wish him every success for the future.

“By making this announcement now, it allows David to get the send off he deserves from the West Ham fans and all of us to show him our appreciation at our final home game of the season against Luton Town on Saturday.”

Former Manchester United and Everton boss Moyes first joined the Hammers in November 2017 but was sacked at the end of the season.

He then returned in 2019 following the departure of Manuel Pellegrini.

And Moyes’ arrival sparked a revival on the pitch, culminating in last season’s historic European Conference League win.

He also led them to back-to-back fifth-place finishes in the Premier League.

However, those results have not been consistent this term, with West Ham winning just 13 of their 36 league games.

They were also knocked out of the Europa League by Bayer Leverkusen last month.
