When Geeta Devi’s husband, Dileshwar Darve, noticed their closeness, he became suspicious. He investigated them and caught them in the act.

Darve wasted no time in taking this unconventional love story to the village panchayat, where Yadav openly confessed his love for his mother-in-law.

In a video that has gone viral on social media, Yadav can be seen applying sindoor on Devi’s hairline in the presence of other villagers. In the video, you can also see how the villagers cheer the married couple and record this unusual togetherness with a camera.

Speaking to the press, Darve said that he happily gave his consent to the marriage.

Once the couple got married in front of the villagers, Darve even arranged for the couple to be married in court.

Recently, in another unusual incident, a 63-year-old priest in Ghana married a 12-year-old girl, who was chosen to be his wife when she was only six years old. The wedding took place in a customary ceremony at Nungua, Krowor and was attended by several members of the community.

Leaders of the Nungua indigenous community, to which both the girl and the priest belong, have criticized the public disapproval of the marriage, saying the criticism ‘stems from ignorance’.

Nii Bortey Kofi Frankwa II, a prominent community leader, was quoted by the Daily Mail as saying that the girl’s marriage to the priest was “entirely based on tradition and custom”. He further explained that the girl began the necessary rituals to become a priest’s wife at the age of six, but that did not stop her from getting an education.

In Ghana, the legal minimum age for marriage is 18, but child marriage still occurs in certain areas and communities despite a downward trend across the country. The government of Ghana has not yet released a response to this controversial marriage.
