‘Bangaloreans can no longer play the weather card’: Woman’s post on harsh summer goes viral

Bengaluru is known for its pleasant weather, thanks to its altitude of over 3,000 feet. However, the city is currently facing an unexpected challenge: a sudden heat wave. This caught the residents off guard, as they never expected to use air conditioners instead of fans to cool down. One long-time resident, who has lived in the Karnataka capital for more than 20 years, said she never “thought she would ever need an air conditioner.” She further expressed that the city is more like Rajasthan.

“Before, if you said anything about this city, people would defend it with pleasant weather. Bangaloreans can no longer play the ‘time’ card, X user Prerana Nireeksha Amanna wrote on the microblogging platform.

She further asked, “What kind of heat is that?” and expressed that “every year the summer is harsher than the previous year” and that the heat in the city is “unbearable”.

She attached a picture of her room in which the air conditioner was installed. She also said she had a refrigerator, but that was “not good enough for this heat.”

“Bangalore was a paradise in the 1970s, now it has ‘evolved’ into hell,” commented another.

A third added, “I totally echo this thought when we used to travel from Vellore or Chennai to Bangalore on weekends for parties or vacations. We used to feel like visiting a hill station compared to the heat of Vellore/Chennai. But now I see all apartments in high-rise buildings and air conditioning installed in every one of them except for a few exceptions. I won’t say the heat is equal to North or West India at this time, but Bangalore has lost its charm. The green covers are gone, we just see tall buildings and more development, no earlier rain, we need rain like anything.”

“I am a Bangalorean. This year the heat was unbearable. No air conditioning yet. In previous years, it used to rain a couple of times. We lacked that this year. Climate change is a real problem,” wrote a fourth.
