Apple faces severe backlash over ‘destructive’ iPad ad shared by CEO Tim Cook on X: ‘Worst. Commercial. Ever’

Apple’s new ad promoting its latest iPad Pro has sparked strong reactions from social media users. Many accused the ad, which shows the destruction of creative instruments and devices, of being “tone deaf” and an “insult” to artists.

CEO Tim Cook took to X to share an ad headlined, “Meet the new iPad Pro: the thinnest product we’ve ever created, the most advanced display we’ve ever produced, with the incredible power of the M4 chip. Just imagine all the things that will be used to create”.

The video opens with a view of several creative tools that are kept on the platform of a huge hydraulic press. They are destroyed one by one, and within a few seconds everything is dramatically crushed. When the hydraulic press starts to rise again, the remains of the destruction disappear, and instead, a new iPad is presented.

The video was shared a day ago and has since gone viral. So far, the video has garnered more than 37 million views – and the numbers are growing fast. The sharing garnered a ton of comments from people expressing their displeasure with the ad.

“Forty years ago, Apple released the 1984 ad as a bold statement against a dystopian future. Now you are that dystopian future. Congratulations,” another commented.

“I just don’t get it. A video of breaking down beautifully crafted instruments that the creators adore?” published by the third.

“You destroyed all creative tools and people’s efforts. Worst. Commercial. Ever,” shared a fourth.

“Many craftsmen value their tools. Musicians value their instruments, architects value their rulers, and painters value their brushes and painting materials more than life itself. The video you presented is ‘all in one’ but they will just get sick of it. They may never want to do business with your company again. Your predecessors showed us their dreams, you showed us our nightmares,” joined the fifth.

“It is a heartbreaking, unpleasant and egotistical advertisement. When I see this result, I am ashamed to buy Apple products for nineteen years,” added the sixth.

“This is the most disgusting, tone-deaf advertisement I have ever seen in my life. Fire all your traders. This is utterly disastrous for your brand,” wrote a seventh.

Apple announced upgrades to its iPad model and launched new models at the recently concluded Let Loose virtual event. The technology company has launched a larger version of the iPad Pro equipped with M4 chip technology.

Available in two sizes, the device has two color options – silver and black. It contains one 12 MP camera and OLED technology. The new iPad Air was also presented at the event.
