A mountaineer’s loyal dog refuses to leave her side after she unexpectedly falls from a height of 300 feet

The dog’s name is Indy, like the fictional character Indiana Jones. Brittany Fintel says that without the support of her traumatized dog, she could have been shocked by her near-death experience in Washington state.

Fintel stated that “Indy” wanted to walk in the snow while they were hiking to the top of Mount St. Helens. The Indiana is Fintel’s German Shepherd and is named after Indiana Jones.

A 32-year-old US Navy veteran tripped over ice while hiking on a volcano and rolled more than 300 feet down a rocky slope.

The moment I fell, I thought it was my last,” Fintel told KGW.

Indy, a PTSD-trained seven-year-old service dog, came over to check on her and make sure she was okay by licking her face.

About 15 minutes later, a group of six people, including a storyteller and a rescuer from different mountains, came to her aid.

About five hours before a US Coast Guard helicopter took her off the hill, Fintel said all six stayed with her and talked to her and Indy.

Wearing goggles, Indy watched her injured owner be airlifted. He was later taken to the hospital for treatment.

Due to the accident, Indy was unable to get out of Fintel’s hospital bed while he was being treated for injuries, including broken pelvis and spine, as well as concussion.

Fintel says that Indy has been amazing throughout the ordeal and that without her loyal friend, Indy would probably be in shock.

“It’s truly a miracle,” she declared.
