The Verbraucherzentrale Hamburg recently named the fraudster of the year. Lidl’s salami took first place, but customers will be deceived twice with this product.
This network is even cheeky in two ways: “Turkey Salami Light” of Lidl’s own brand Dulano came in second place for cheating in 2018. The Consumer Center in Hamburg gives this “award” annually, below five nominated products that manufacturers impose hidden price increases. The first place went to another product, however, Lidl will attract customers to buy Light-Salame Dulano twice on the table.
Because supposedly light salami is 33 percent more expensive than the normal variant of salami from the same manufacturer, writes welt.de. Anyone who thinks that you need to reach deeper into your bag for healthy products is wrong. A look at the ingredient list of the two salami varieties shows that they are identical. And that’s not all: the Light version has even more fat and thus more calories than normal salami. The deceptive Light-Salami is not only bad for the wallet, but it torpedoed the fight against Kilos.
Generally speaking, Light diet products are often not particularly useful. A recent study showed why this is so.
the maker of The Lidl Salami took the blame
Manufacturer H. Kempter GmbH & co. KG, Lidl salami comes from, protected according to the consumer Hamburg. The declaration of “Light” salami was not acceptable because the sausage contains more than 30 percent less fat than “normal” pork salami. Consumer Statement: “That’s true, but many consumers can’t understand this comparison.”
The good news is that the naming and shaming was effective. Discount Lidl now wants to unify the packaging of sausages by mid-February – to “Dulano light turkey salami, 200g”.
